The evolution of Certified Administrator of Public Parking (CAPP) into Parking, Transportation & Mobility Professional™ (PTMP™) isn’t a gimmick—it’s growth. It isn’t just a rebrand—it’s a recognition that our industry continues to transform. CAPP was needed and right for its time. Times are different now, and it’s time for a credential that captures our diverse, dynamic work across the parking, transportation, and mobility sectors.

When I passed the CAPP exam nine years ago, the credential helped me earn a promotion from manager to director. I worked at a university as an administrator of public parking, and obtaining CAPP made sense. Unfortunately, the name of the credential didn’t always compel that same buy-in from leaders in other sectors of our industry. As CAPP’s prominence grew, so did questions about its name, which sometimes kept good candidates, say in the private industry, from earning a credential which—at a glance—seemed to be more about public parking or administration.

We owe a massive debt to the many IPMI members who devoted their time to building a strong professional organization with an industry-leading credential, especially in the early days of IPI. With their blessing, CAPP met the challenge of transforming into PTMP™ and staying relevant.

That’s why I strongly believe in the change from CAPP to PTMP™. It honors the rigor and legacy of CAPP and its founders while opening the door to more professionals across the parking, transportation, and mobility landscape. Our industry includes parking directors, engineers, planners, private operators, curb space managers, transit leaders, and, yes—parking administrators. PTMP™ welcomes all of us.

For those pursuing it, know this: it’s challenging, and the exam is hard, but the knowledge, growth, and recognition that come with it make a difference. PTMP™ represents who we are now and where we’re headed.
